What's the ideal bodyweight? More importantly ,how do you find your ideal body weight and is there any such thing? Let's discuss this topic.

First of all bodyweight is never constant it fluctuates depending on many factors, any food or liquid you put into your body will increase your weight and cause slight fluctuations so the timing when you weigh in is an important factor as well as exactly what you ate or drank before you weighed in, and a million other things concerning body chemistry, physiology and body type. Therefore, more realistically we should be talking about the ideal weight range rather than an absolute ideal weight. However, this is also insufficient as weight alone is an insufficient measure for health. Body composition is the most important factor and is only loosely related to weight.



The ideal weight depends not only on the weight itself but also on your individual goals. A bodybuilder will aim for an ideal weight different from a catwalk model. The body composition will also be very different in these two examples. Two people can also have the same height and weight but very different body composition making one individual unhealthy and the other particularly healthy, even though height/weight ratio or BMI is identical. This is why body composition is more important than weight. It is natural to assume that the health aspect and secondly esthetics are the main goals we measure ideal weight by,and for most people this is true according to their goals. That, brings up yet another question what is health, and what aspects of health do we use as baseline values. As we all know health is a huge topic and is defined differently by different people. However, now that we determined that body composition is more important than weight, lets look at body composition in relation to health, and try to get closer to the ideal body composition. As stated before "ideal" is a relative value, it brings forward the question: "ideal in relation to what"? However approximate values for ideal body composition does exist and it relates to and is measured by the total percentage of body fat.

For men, the ideal percentage of body fat is between
12 and 18%. Over 25% body fat for men is considered obese. For women, the ideal percentage of body fat is between 16 and 25%, with over 30%
considered to be obese.

These values are not absolute but represents and average of what is considered ideal. Methods of body fat measuring may also be inaccurate depending on the equipment and procedures used.

But so be it, Fast dieting and too rapid weigt loss will not benefit your health anyway and may instead cause adverse effects.

Some diets that claims to be the best for losing weight quickly are even based on dieuretics and losing water weight, which is really only an illusion of losing weight because you are not losing fat, and this might have serious adverse effects on your health. Don't dehydrate yourself, and have your goals set within an extended, if not permanent timeline. All the best diets for weight loss focus on long term changes which is why you should avoid the ones that only promise fast weight loss nad nothing else. You might get what youre after from these on short term, but it wont benefit your health or your weight in the long run. The best way to lose weight is to choose a diet that focus on long term weight loss and combine it with regular physical activity. The diet will not need to be very strict but it needs to have long term goals. The best diets for weigt loss are always the ones that are focusing on long term changes.
